Chapter 15, The Reinforcements

The battle in Elmore continues to escalate.  The Rangers and Team Omega are completely surrounded by enemy soldiers.  But even with the odds against them, they don’t back down.  They fight with everything they’ve got.

“I’ve never seen so many Inorbit Soldiers!” shouts Slammer as she fires off her gun.  “They’re everywhere!”

“We’re well aware of that!” comments Dustin as he side kicks a soldier.  “We have to cover each other’s backs, or will be completely overrun!”

As Nicole keeps shooting from the convenience store, she notices a soldier firing a missile her way.  “HIT THE DECK!!!!” she shouts.  Everyone drops to the floor, and the missile hits the ground near the store, causing debris to fly through the windows.

Killer, unaware of the battle taking place, remains unfazed.  “I’m gonna get a refill,” he says.

“Oh you’ve got to be kidding me!” exclaims the doughnut cop.  “There’s a battle over the fate of our world going on out there, and all he can think about is tacos and smoothies!  I’m always having to keep an eye on him, but today just isn’t a good day for that!”

“Well, in that case, you can just go back to the police station if you are fed up with all this,” says Nicole, impatiently.  “You’re armed with a taser, so you should be fine walking right through the midst of the chaos.”

The doughnut cop looks out the window at the intense battle, the city swarming with Inorbit soldiers, and only a few getting pummeled at a time.  “You know what,” he says, “I think it’s safer here than out there.  Plus my taser doesn't seem to work on the masked creeps.”

“Then stay put and keep your mouth shut,” demands Nicole.  “I can’t concentrate with you complaining.”

“Yes, ma’am,” salutes the doughnut cop.  “You seem to know how to handle these guys a lot better than I do.”

Killer walks to the doughnut cop and pulls a smoothie out from behind his right ear.  “Smoothie?” he offers.

“Eh…no thanks,” answers the doughnut cop.

As the battle rages on, Rosk notices Michael getting overrun by Inorbit soldiers.  Despite their inability to cooperate, Rosk knows that there’s a better chance of winning if everyone is present.  He grabs a car and starts spinning in a circle.  “Black Ranger heads up!” he cries out.

“Huh?” says Michael.  He sees Rosk toss the car his way.  Acting quickly, Michael tucks and rolls out of the way, and watches as the car crashes into the soldiers.  “Whoa, thanks, Rosk.”

“No problem,” replies Rosk.

Michael notices a soldier about to do a sneak attack behind Rosk.  So he punches the ground, causing the pavement underneath the solder to form a fist, and uppercuts the soldier dead in the face.

“Whoa!  Did you do that?” asks Rosk.

“Yep, looks like we’re even now,” answers Michael.

A sudden blast wave flings Michael and Rosk back.

Rosk stands back up firing his gun.  “You’re kind double-crossed our kind!” he shouts.  “For that, you will pay, and that means each and every one of you!”

As Devin, Adam, and Beki ride their Pokémon, Devin decides to make a detour.  He signals Groudon over to a stone wall, and Groudon smashes right through it, allowing the other two Pokémon to follow.

“I heard they were gonna build a traffic tunnel there anyway,” comments Devin.  With Elmore in sight, the Rangers and their rides hurry to reach the city as soon as possible.

Elmore’s Inorbit pest problem continues to lay waste while its exterminators fight hard, along with some support from Nicole.

With fluid movements, Dustin strikes down any soldiers that get in his way.  “Face it, puny punks, I’m like water itself,” he taunts.  “I’m difficult to catch, and I do serious damage!”

Nicolas touches his Megastone, powering up for a quick ice type attack.  “Here comes the freezer burn!” he shouts as he slams his hand into the face of an Inorbit soldier.  The icy power from Nicolas’s hand instantly freezes the soldier’s face.  “You feelin it?!  Huh?!  You feelin it?!”

At the convenience store, Killer tries to get Nicole’s attention by lightly tugging her shirt.  “Excuse me, Mrs. Watterson?” he says.

“Not now, Killer,” replies Nicole.  “Can’t you see I’m shooting holes in the bad guys?”

“Do you have any guacamole on you?” asks Killer.  “My tacos would taste great with some.”

“What?!  Why on earth would I have any guacamole on me?!” exclaims Nicole.

“Mrs. Watterson!” calls out Michael as he rushes to Nicole.  “These soldiers are popping up everywhere, we could use a little more support.”

“I’m doing the best I can, Black Ranger.  After all, I’ve only got this one blaster,” remarks Nicole.

“I know, but we need a little more firepower.  Hey I know, we can arm your kids with blasters and let them get in on the action.”

“WHAT?!?!?!”

“You’re right, what was I thinking.  Putting civilians, especially children, in harm's way is the last thing  Power Rangers would ever do.  Forgive me, I know that suggestion was unacceptable.”

“Look, Black Ranger, just keep fighting.  We’ll try to figure out a way to add more firepower.”

“Alright then, Mrs. W, I’ll leave it to you.”

Having just listened to the conversation, Richard does one of the most difficult things he’s ever done, thinks.  Suddenly an idea comes to him.  “Kids, you remember when I said that you should never mix pop-rocks and soda?” he asks his children.

“Uh, yeah,” answers the three Watterson kids.

“Well, this is an exception!”  Richard rushes to check out, pulls a handful of money from his pocket and slams it on the counter.  Then, he searches the store and fetches two cans of soda and two bags of pop-rocks.  He then rushes back to the window.  “Black Ranger!”

Michael punches a soldier’s face like a punching bag when he hears Richard calling and runs up to him.  “Whatever it is you have to tell me, it better be good,” he remarks.

“Listen closely,” says Richard.  “Soda,”  he opens both soda cans, “plus pop-rocks,” he rips open the pop-rock bags with his teeth and puts them over the soda cans, “equals grenades!”

Amazed, Michael takes the newly formed grenades.  “Mr. Watterson, that’s brilliant!”  he exclaims.  He runs off looking for enemy soldiers to use the grenades on.

“Really?” asks Richard in shock.  “I can’t believe it!  Did you kids hear?  He said my idea was brilliant!”

“That’s great, Dad,” says Anais.  She looks at her brothers and quietly says “I don’t have the heart to tell him that it’s hardly a compliment when it comes from the comic relief.”

Michael finds a ton of Inorbit soldiers.  He shakes the pop-rock and soda grenades to start the detonation timer.  “Hey, trick-or-treaters, have some grenades!” he shouts as he throws the weapons.  “Full of pain and packed with flavor!”

The grenades land at the soldiers' feet.  They look at them with confusion written all over their masked faces.

“Grenades?” asks one soldier as he pokes at the pop-rocks and soda.  “These are just-”

The flavorful bombs explode, scattering the soldiers and covering them with fizzy goodness.

“What do you know, Richard’s idea actually works,” says Michael.  “I better get him to make more.”

As he rushes back, Inorbit fighter ships swarm in and fire at the Rangers and Team Omega.

“Lots of soldiers, way too many fighter ships, and not enough stamina,” groans Michael.  “This just might be the end of the Black Ranger.”

In another part of Elmore, two Inorbit soldiers laugh as they watch their enemies struggle to fight back.

“Ha ha!  This is too much!” says one soldier.  “They actually think they stand a chance against us!”

“Yeah, this is gold,” comments the other soldier.  “Those Rangers and Team Omega may be formidable, but they can’t keep up with an army this big.  At some point, they’ll get tired.  And when they do, we’ll wipe them off the face of the planet like moths on a windshield.”

“You can say that again.”

“Yeah, but then I’d be bragging.”

The two soldiers burst out laughing at the remark when they suddenly start to feel the ground shaking.

“Hey, why’s the ground shaking?  Do we have any walking mechs?”

“I don’t think so, but something’s definitely causing the ground to shake.”

The first soldier stares off with fear.  “Maybe it’s caused by a giant burning red dinosaur,” he says, trembling.

“Giant burning red dinosaur?” asks the other soldier.  “If that’s not the most random thing ever to be spoken, I don’t know what is.”  Realizing that his comrade is not looking at him, he turns and looks behind him.  “Oh look at that, a giant burning red dinosaur.  I guess it wasn’t random after…GIANT BURNING RED DINOSAUR?!?!?!?!?!”

Primal Groudon charges into Elmore, ready to stomp on Inorbit parasites.  Devin, with his Evolution Saber tightly in his hand, stands on Groudon ready to strike.

“Now, attack!” Devin orders!

“What do we do?!   What do we do?!” asks the first soldier, desperately.

“What else, shoot them!” answers the other soldier.

“Right, right, everyone, open fire on the dinosaur!” commands the first soldier.

The Inorbit soldiers fire upon Primal Groudon, only to find the shots bouncing off.  Devin jumps off Groudon’s head.  As he falls, he flings his Evolution Saber towards the ground, striking one soldier in the process.  Sticking the landing, Devin grabs his weapon and fights on ground level.  Groudon strikes at his share of soldiers with his mighty tail.  An Inorbit fighter ship flies right for him, but he catches it in his sharp teeth, crushing it, and flings it away.

“Groudon, give me a lift!” commands Devin and he climbs onto the back of Primal Groudon’s hand.

With a nod in response, Groudon lifts his right arm, which Devin uses as a catapult and leaps to the top of a building, where he clears it of more soldiers.  He kicks the last one zooming from the roof, only to be smacked down hard to the ground by Groudon.  Devin jumps back onto Groudon’s head and they continue into Elmore.

Primal Kyogre soars just above the ground, while on his back, Beki takes shots at the enemy soldiers with Her Evolution Blaster.  She notices over a dozen or two of them charging at her.  “Kyogre, use Surf!” she orders.

Acting on the order given, Primal Kyogre creates a huge tidal wave.  The charging soldiers take one look at the rising water.  With “Nope” written on their faces, they run like crazy.  But their efforts at escaping are wasted, for they get swept away by the powerful wave.

Adam holds tightly to Rayquaza’s top two horns as they descend from the air.  “Alright, Rayquaza, just like we practiced,” he says.

As Rayquaza comes closer to the ground, he curls into a forward roll.  As he finishes the motion, his lethal tail slams with a mighty crash to the ground, flinging all nearby Inorbit soldiers into the air.

One of the unfortunate soldiers gets snatched in Rayquaza’s mouth and flung to the side.  As he crashes, he tries very hard to get back up.  “I’m ok,” he moans right before getting stepped on by Primal Groudon.  “…ow…”

As Devin rides Groudon into town, he sees a mass number of fighter ships heading their way.  “HYPER BEAM!!!!” he commands, pointing his saber forward.

Acting upon the command, Primal Groudon opens his massive maw.  A golden energy sphere builds up in front of his mouth.  Once it’s ready, Groudon fires the powerful golden Hyper Beam attack.  He turns his head from left to right, causing all fighter ships to be obliterated by the attack.

One Inorbit pilot managed to eject and is floating down by a parachute.  But as Groudon walks by, Devin cuts one of the ropes to the parachute with his saber, causing the pilot to fall and crash.

As the three Rangers continue riding through Elmore, Groudon keeps stomping  and slashing soldiers, Kyogre plows his way through, and Rayquaza lashes out with whips from his mighty tail.  The Inorbit army is on the run from these mighty beasts and their cunning masters.

Savior, aboard his aircraft, confidently watches as his soldiers overwhelm his enemies.  “This is a sight I’ve wanted to see for a long time.  Not only will the Rangers be wiped out, but Alpha’s precious Team Omega will be put to an end as well,” he says with an evil laugh.

The Inorbit Lieutenant contacts the aircraft from the field of battle.  “Governor Savior, we’ve got a problem!” he calls out.

“What problem could you possibly have?” asks Savior.  “You’ve got the enemy outnumbered.”

“Yes, but we don’t have them outsized,” says the Lieutenant.

“Outsized?  What does that even mean?” Savior asks, confused.

“The troops are getting- DAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!”  Transmission with the aircraft gets cut off.

“Lieutenant?  Lieutenant!” Savior calls out.

“Sir, we’re picking up three massive power sources moving within Elmore,” says one crew member.

“Are they in range of our visual scanners?” asks Savior.

“They are sir.”

“Then put them on screen.”  Once the order is carried out, Savior it shocked to see what it is his ship detected  through the monitors.  He looks at the center screen.  “Primal Groudon?”  The left screen.  “Primal Kyoger?”  And the Right.  “Mega Rayquaza?”  Savior, confused by the sights of the mighty beasts, can’t seem to make heads or tails of the situation.  “The Super Ancient Pokémon?  How did they get here?!  Wait a minute, zoom in on each creatures' head.”

“Yes sir,” obeys a crew member.

Savior watches closely as the sensors zoom in, and to his surprise,  finds the Pokémon’s riders.  “What the?  The other three Rangers, they’re riding the ancient Pokémon!” he exclaims.  “How did they get past my field?!”

“I think I know how, Governor,” answers a crew member.  “Since the field was set to prevent dimensional portals from opening inside of Elmore, the other Rangers may have come through a portal that opened outside of Elmore, and the Rangers rode those big creatures all the way here.  But that’s just my theory.”

Savior takes a moment to take in that information.  “…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”  He shouts in despair.

On the battlefield, Michael tries with all his might to make it back to the convenience store.  “So…low on…energy.  But I must…reload…on…the flavorful grenades,”  he says as he struggles to move.  Suddenly, a blast at his feet flings him in the air, causing him to land painfully on his back.  Michael tries to get back up, but the next thing he knows, and Inorbit soldier has a gun pointed right at him.

“Gotcha!” exclaims the soldier.  “It’s a known fact that the strong ones are usually the dumb ones as well.”

“…Ouch, that was harsh, man,” says Michael.

“Any last requests before you’re obliterated, Black Ranger?” asks the soldier, ready to pull the trigger.

While keeping eye contact with the soldier, Michael reaches his right hand out to a nearby rock.  As he does so, he focuses his power of earth to make the rock roll towards him.  “Uh, yeah, two actually.” He answers the soldier.

“Well then lay it on me while I’m still willing to grant them,” demands the soldier.

“Sure thing,” says Michael as the rock rolls right into his hand.  “First, dance.”  With the rock held tight in his hand, Michael slams it right on the soldier’s foot.

“OOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!” the soldier screams painfully.  He drops his gun and holds his smashed foot while hopping on his other foot.  “Ow, ow, ow, ow, my foot!  Ow ow!

“Second, take a nap,” says Michael.  He flicks the rock away, causing it to hit the soldier’s forehead.  Michael watches as the knocked out soldier falls flat on his back.  “I’ve always wanted to do that.”

As Nicole keeps fending off enemy Soldiers from inside the convenience store, she notices Michael just lying on his back in the middle of the battle.  She rushes up to him, wondering why he’s not fighting back.  “Black Ranger, why are you just lying there?” she asks desperately.

“Because I can’t feel my limbs,” moans Michael.

“You can’t stop now, you have to keep fighting!” says Nicole.

“Sorry, Ma’am,” groans Michael as he tries to lift his head up, “but unless you can lend me some steam, I am no help to you.”

“Listen,” says Nicole, impatiently.   “You and the others know that it’s a Ranger’s duty to protect all life from anyone or anything that seeks to destroy them, no matter the odds.  So get back on your feet and kick some Inorbit butt like a Ranger is supposed to!”

“Nicole, honey, relax,” says Richard.  “He said he needed steam, right?  So we just need to get him to a sauna.”

“Dad, remember that talk we had about speaking figuratively?” asks Anais.

“Mmmmm…vaguely,” answers Richard.  “But what does that have to do with the sauna?”

Suddenly, the Wattersons, the cop, and Michael hear a fearsome roar inside the city.

“Mr. Dad, please tell me that was your stomach,” says Darwin, scared,” because I don’t want to think that that was a giant scary monster that’s coming for us.

“I’m sorry, my boy,” replies Richard, “as hungry as I am, I’m afraid it wasn’t.”

“Wait a minute,” says Michael, trying to sit up, “I know that roar, it’s Groudon!  Or more accurately, judging by the version of the roar, Primal Groudon!”

“Is that good or bad?” asks the doughnut cop.

“Well it’s good for you Tawogians, but bad for us Rangers,” answers Michael.

“Good for us Tawogians but bad for, what does that even mean?”

“It’s good for you Tawogians because Groudon is on our side.  But it’s bad for us Ranger because if Groudon’s here, then so is his master.”

“Ok, who’s his master?”

“The big man in red himself.”

“Strange, I thought he used reindeer to pull his sleigh.”

“No, not Santa!” exclaims Nicole.  “He’s talking about the Red Ranger.”

“Oooooohhhhhh.  The bad part is that he’s gonna yell at you and your fellow Rangers for disobeying his orders.”

“You got it, Officer Glaze-face,” says Michael as he lies back down.

Devin, Adam, Beki, and their mighty beasts continue their attack on the invaders as they get closer to the shopping center.

“Gain way!” calls out Devin as his viscous Groudon flattens Inorbit soldiers beneath his feet.

As Adam rides Rayquaza in the air, he spots Ash down below being overrun by enemy soldiers.  “Oh no!” he says.  “Rayquaza, Ash is in trouble!  I’ll take care of the soldiers while you get him out of there!”  Rayquaza replies with a roar.  Adam jumps off with a forward flip.  He sticks the landing and fends off the soldiers overwhelming Ash.

“Adam?  What are you doing here?” asks Ash, confused.

“No time for that now!” says Adam as he fights.  “Hitch a ride on Rayquaza, he’ll take you to a spot where you can recharge!”

“You brought Rayquaza?  Where is he?”

“He’s behind you.”

Ash turns around to see Mega Rayquaza zooming right towards him.  “DAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!”  He flinches as Rayquaza snatches him.  Next thing Ash knows he’s in the air on Rayquaza’s back.  “Oh.  Hey, would you mind using a more settle approach next time?”  Ash feels a tap on his shoulder.  He turns to look, only to get socked in the face by an Inorbit Soldier, knocking him off Rayquaza’s back.

“Happy landings, Yellow boy!” shouts the soldier, followed by an evil laugh.

Mega Rayquaza notices Ash falling.  He quickly makes a straight dive, forcing the soldier to hold on tight.  Rayquaza zooms past Ash, then pulls up, allowing him to land on his back.

Ash stares right at the soldier, who looks back at him surprised.  “That was a cheap move, man,” he comments.  “Also, no hitchhikers!”  He does a spin kick right at the soldier’s face, but the soldier manages to stay on Rayquaza.

Ash and the soldier duke it out, trying to knock the other off the mighty green dragon.  During the struggle, Ash manages to get a firm hold on the soldier and fling him off.  However, as the soldier is falling, he manages to grab hold of the energy tendril from Rayquaza’s upper right horn.  The soldier uses it to swing back and kick Ash right off, causing him to grab the other energy tendril on the upper left horn.  The weight on Rayquaza’s top tendrils causes him to lose control of where he’s going.

“Whoa!  Hey!  Settle down!  Whoa, dragon, whoa!” shouts the soldier.  “What’s the deal with this dragon?!”

“We’re wrecking his flight pattern because we’re hanging off his, uh, whatever these glowing yellow things are!” Ash answers.

“Well then I guess we’ll just have to lighten the load,” says the soldier as he pulls out his gun.  He tries to shoot Ash off, but the flailing tendrils make it impossible to land a shot.  “Will you hold still already?!”

“Dude, I couldn’t hold still if I wanted to right now!” says Ash as he notices Rayquaza heading straight for a building.  “Rayquaza, look out!”

Mega Rayquaza crashes through the building, causing Ash and the soldier to lose their grips on the tendrils and tumble to the ground.  Ash’s pain intensifies with this latest crash, making it hard for him to move.  But he manages to grab the handle of the weapon strapped to his back.

“Ah ah ah!  Don’t even think about it,” says the soldier, standing over Ash with his blaster pointed at his back.  “Looks like I’ll be the first to terminate a Power Ranger, and none of your friends will know what happened.”  Suddenly the soldier is lifted into the air.  “Hey, what the?!”  He realizes that he’s been picked up by Mega Rayquaza’s three-clawed hand.  “Hey!  Put me down, you flying, overly detailed reptile!

Rayquaza looks at Ash, waiting for instructions.

“Pull,” says Ash.

With a nod, Rayquaza flings the soldier into the air.

Ash converts his weapon into its blaster mode and makes its Megastone touch the Megastone on his wrist, charging the weapon for a finishing attack.  He points his Evolution Blaster at the soldier.  “Parabolic Charge!” he shouts as he pulls the trigger.  An electric sphere shoots out and hits the soldier.  The electric shock keeps the soldier in the air as a strip of lightning from the electrification zooms down to Ash.  He holds up his hand, allowing the electricity to touch him and drain the soldier of his stamina.

“This can’t be happening!  NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!” shouts the soldier as he’s being electrocuted.  Finally, the soldier is terminated by the finishing attack with an explosion.

“Alright, I’m fully charged and ready for more,” says Ash, enthusiastically.  Suddenly, he gets a call from his communicator.

“Calling all Rangers,” says the caller, “rendezvous at the shopping center immediately.”

“That was Devin!” says Ash, surprised.  “That means he knows what we’ve been doing.  Well come on, Rayquaza, we better not keep him waiting.”
